Dr. Akilah Cadet is the founder of Change Cadet, an Oakland based organizational development consulting firm specializing in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB). As a woman of color, she uses her personal and professional experiences. We are so excited for her to join us at Get Money Get Paid 2019 in Brooklyn on November 2nd. We sat down with Akilah, where shared the importance of having a tax person and how she adds a touch of Beyoncé to inspire her work.

What is the best money advice you’ve ever received? What’s career and/or money advice you’d like to give.

Best advice: Get a tax person.

Advice to share: Don’t be afraid to walk away from money. If the client, person, company, job isn’t serving you move on! Life is short and there’s always money elsewhere. Speaking of money save some of it!

What’s a moment in your career that you’re really proud of?

Anytime I give a talk or coach someone and I’m told “I’m inspired by what you said” or because of what you said I’m now [insert something positive] are incredibly proud moments from me. When people work through something or feel something new within themselves because of something I said or did it affirms my purpose. And quite frankly makes it easy for me to be my true authentic self. I’m proud when other people, especially women and women of color are proud of themselves!

Who is a woman you admire (living or dead)?

Beyoncé Giselle Knowles Carter. She is someone I’ll work with one day. You know two dope Virgo women doing inspirational shit.

What is one thing you hope the attendees at the conference will take away from your story?

There’s nothing like being your true authentic self in any setting. When you live in your truth you are a magnet to all that you want personally and professionally!
